I have dress up in a costume...?

Ok so I voluntered to dress up like cat in the hat and pass out treats to kids at a elem. School. I'm 13 and last time I did this I felt so awkward. All these little kids come running up to me and I have no clue what to say to them. All a say is "hi" and then I'm lost. I feel bad cause they r little kids and they want to actually talk to me. So what should i do so it won't be awkward??
